Confirmation

How do I Choose a Confirmation Name ?

In our Catholic tradition, it is part of the Rite of Confirmation to choose a new name. From the earliest of Christian times, when a person decides to choose to follow Christ, they also chose or were given a new name. For instance, Simon became Peter, Saul became Paul. You also have this choice - to choose a new name when you receive the Sacrament of Confirmation.

However,  If you wish to take another name, the name you choose must be that of a recognized Saint of the Catholic Church. If you do decide on a new name, you should read something about the life of the Saint, as he/she will become another patron Saint of yours, and you would seek to emulate some aspects of the Saint’s life.

The Confirmation Name Form is included in the Confirmation Packet.
