Solemnity of the Ascension
Celebrated on Sunday, May 24 this year
Mass at 10:30 am
Dear Faithful of the Archdiocese of Newark:
Although the obligation to attend Mass on Sundays and Holy Days has been suspended, there is a understandable urgency to livestream liturgies for the faithful. To ease the pastoral work of livestreaming during this difficult time, I have approved the transfer of the observance of the Ascension of the Lord from Thursday, May 21, to Sunday, May 24, 2020.
All parishes and places of Worship will follow the directions given in the ORDO, page 137 "Where the Ascension is observed on Sunday.” This applies without exception to all Masses celebrated on Sunday, May 24, in the Archdiocese of Newark.
Sincerely yours in Christ the Redeemer,
Cardinal Joseph W. Tobin, C.Ss.R
We will use the Sunday’s celebration of the Ascension (May 24), which is also the Memorial Day Weekend, as a Mass in which we will commemorate all those who have died over the past few months, due to either COVID-19 or other causes. Msgr. Michael will remember your intentions in a special way at our Virtual Mass on that Day, to be broadcast at the usual time of 10:30am.
